Spring breakers allegedly chanted 'build that wall' during a trip to Cancun last week.

The American travelers reportedly shouted the sentence while visiting Mexico on a tourist ship.

The group were on board a 'Pirate Ship' attraction during their visit.

Local media has said that the attraction, which allegedly encouraged the behaviour, is supporting 'xenophobia and discrimination against Mexicans within their own country.'

The statement follows US president Donald Trump's plans to build a wall on the border. According to the Yucatan Times, there have been 'numerous complaints' about spring breakers in Mexico.

The newspaper added that the 'racist hymn' being sung on the 'Pirate Ship' wasn't an isolated incident. Anaximandro Amable, a Peruvian who was aboard one of the ships, took to social media recently to share his experience. He said: 'Today I was with Suly, my wife (who is a native of Mexico), watching an entertainment show off the coast of Cancun aboard a boat.

'At the end of the show, a flock of Americans (maybe under the influence of alcohol, or maybe not), began to sing the infamous 'Build that wall' chant louder and louder'.'

In January, Trump signed an executive order to enable construction of the wall, stating during a brief signing ceremony 'we've been talking about this right from the beginning.'

In an earlier interview with ABC News, the US President said plans are already underway and construction of the wall, which will run across the Mexican border, will begin in a few months.

He added: 'Ultimately, it will come out of what's happening with Mexico ... and we will be in a form reimbursed by Mexico, which I've always said.
